January 9, 2008 marked the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Japan. A Commemorative Ceremony was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. During the ceremony, congratulatory messages from H.E. Mr. Masahiko Koumura, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and H.E. Mr. Hor Namhong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, were exchanged by H.E. Mr. Katsuhiro Shinohara, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, and H.E. Mr. Long Visalo, Secretary of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Their Excellencies declared the commencement of “Cambodia-Japan Friendship Year 2008”, which aims to promote people-to-people exchange programs in various fields, such as economics, culture, arts, science, sports and tourism.
In order to celebrate the anniversary, upcoming events of “Cambodia-Japan Friendship Year 2008” will be held.
