The Legends of Angkor Festival will take place from 24th November-23rd December 2007, and 2nd-27th January 2008 at Angkor Wat, Siem Reap.

Inspired by the historical tale of the French naturalist Alexander Henri Mouhot, who rediscovered Angkor Wat, the performance mixes history and legend. The magical figure, the Apsara, leads Mouhot through the temples as the audience learns about this history of Angkor.

This is a computer animated photo of Angkor as researchers believe it looked like 700years ago at the peak of its power. The scientists (from Germanny) used light airplanes and satellite photos to help them understand the real size of Angkor at the time. They think that the entire city covered 1000 square kilometers (Berlin has 900) and was home to tens of thousands of people who lived around the huge temples. It was the biggest city in the world at the time. Really amazing.
